This bungalow is designed for a family of six on a 6000sq.ft of plot. The plot is located on the fringe of the main city with views of tall buildings as well as some farms. The planning of the house is done in such a way that the spaces are wrapped around the central courtyard. All these spaces are very well connected with the outdoors as well as the central landscaped courtyard. The architecture of this bungalow is enhanced by the protruding masses and pergolas at various levels These floating masses wrapped in bamboo cladding create a design language which further carried inside the house by suspending the family room between the living room and the courtyard. The stone walls, bamboo cladding and glass windows are balanced with white masses. The main porch is designed on a single column which creates a dynamic entrance. The large, cantilevered pergola was structurally challenging. This pergola also enhances the floating effect. The juxtaposition of the masses cladded in stone and bamboo cladding create a balanced contemporary piece of architecture. The idea was to create spaces that are strongly connected with each other and strongly connected to the landscape. The courtyard in the centre of the house is spanning till the second floor allows for this connection. The living room is planned on the northeast side with a double height and a large opening on the north wall allowing diffused light through the day. The spaces are planned around the courtyard, living on one side, dining on the other and bedroom on the third side. The entire house is designed with ample natural light through the large openings and cross ventilation. The courtyard also plays a major role in pouring the light through the whole house. The family room is planned on the first floor overlooking the part of the living room on one side and the courtyard on the other. It almost gives a feeling of hanging mass. This suspended family room hence becomes a focal point of the house and an inspiration for the interior design theme for the whole house. The ceiling of family room is designed to create the effect of monolithic mass hanging between spaces. The overall theme of the house is contemporary. The grey floor forms a neutral base. The furniture and art pop in some colours creating a subtle yet vibrant house. The bedrooms are designed with a mindful design language to suit each generation of the family – elderly parents, a young couple, and small boys. The top floor has been designed for entertainment and relaxation areas, such as gym, game room, spa, massage room and a party terrace. The mood for the gym and game room is lifted by the use of bright colours. The massage room is designed with earthy tones and natural stone flooring creating serene ambience for relaxation. The vertical garden has been planned in the central courtyard which continues till the second floor. The visual connection that gets created through the bungalow is enhanced by this landscape feature and it truly brings nature inside the built space.
